How to use the G/T Collaboration Wiki
A wiki is a collaborative website which involves visitors in the ongoing process of creation; a wiki constantly changes because everyone contributes. Wikipedia is a well-known example of a wiki. To use this wiki:
Start a discussion by clicking on the "discussion" tab at the top of the page.
Access pages on the wiki by clicking on the titles on the left side of the page.
Open links and documents by clicking on them.
Rationale
With time for planning and collaboration such a highly prized and rare commodity, the G/T Collaboration Wiki has been designed to provide resources, support, and collaborative opportunities for school personnel who work with gifted students. The wiki is intended to serve as a “living” resource document by encouraging cross-district collaboration and input from teachers. Teachers will be invited and encouraged to contribute to the wiki by sharing their own personal experiences, successful management practices, successful lessons for gifted, talented, and high-achieving students, and more. The discussion option provides an outlet for teachers to initiate discussion topics involving the instruction of G/T students, with the ultimate goal of all students experiencing the “best” instructional practices available.
The G/T Collaboration Wiki meets the following national standards:
Standard 3: Individual Learning Differences, K2: Affective characteristics and learning needs of individuals with gifts, talents, and disabilities.
Standard 10: Collaboration, K1: Culturally responsive behaviors that promote effective communication and collaboration with individuals with gifts and talents, their families, school personnel, and community members
The G/T Collaboration Wiki provides information about the attributes of giftedness, creativity, and the Texas State Plan for gifted and talented students. By providing this information in a straight-forward manner, with cautions about stereotypes and misconceptions about the gifted, the G/T collaboration ensures that Standard 3, K2
is addressed. The wiki contains information about the affective characteristics and learning needs of gifted students, as well as the option for teachers to initiate discussions about any of these topics or other topics teachers may prefer to have addressed.
The resources page and teacher toolbox page both provides a growing set of strategies and resources for teachers to utilize when working with gifted students. All parts of the wiki are eligible for discussion, which provides an outlet for teachers of gifted students to collaborate with and support each other. The wiki meets Standard 10, K1 by ensuring that school personnel have access to current research and information about teaching gifted and talented students, as well as promoting dialogue about gifted education.
